Taiwan thanks Tuvalu for its backing

The Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian has thanked the visiting Tuvaluan Prime Minister, Apisai Ielemia, for his country's support for Taiwan to join the United Nations, the World Health Organisation, and for its public backing.
The China Post reports President Chen expressed his gratitude during a meeting with Prime Minister Ielemia and his wife at the Presidential Office.
During their discussion, the Taiwanese leader noted that his country had sent several mobile medical missions to Tuvalu this year.
He expressed his hope that such bilateral medical exchanges and cooperation could be further strengthened.
Prime Minister Ielemia thanked Taiwan for its assistance, saying the medical missions were particularly welcome.
