The Director of the Department of Youth and Women Affairs in American Samoa has challenged young people to come up with suggestions on how a current spate of violence can be stopped.
Leiataua Leuga Turner said school fights are happening nearly every day and more and more minors are appearing in court for burglaries and other crimes.
Leiataua asked young people present at a youth conference to voice their ideas on how the government, churches and community groups can help them.
"I witness, especially before Christmas, just about every other day there is a group of youth throwing rocks at each other in CBD and the market. That really got my attention because this is our environment and this where we live."
