American Samoa Senate endorses police investigation into overtime payments

10:59 am on 15 January 2008

American Samoa's Senate President Lolo Moliga is applauding the move by police to investigate overtime payments to certain government employees.

Lolo says this is a positive step in the right direction in improving the government and for American Samoa to handle its own affairs without

having the federal government take over investigations of local matters.

He said local law enforcement is capable of handling local investigations that deal with the territorial government.

Last week the Attorney General's Office alerted certain government departments about police conducting an investigation into overtime payments.

The issue was first raised with the Attorney General in a report by the Senate Select Investigative Committee (SSIC) last year.
