Tropical Cyclone Funa heads for Vanuatu

10:08 am on 17 January 2008

The depression approaching Vanuatu from the west has been declared a Tropical Cyclone, named Funa.

The cyclone is west of Santo.

The Vanuatu met service has strongly advised people not to go out to sea until the system moves out of the area.

It says heavy rainfall and flooding, including coastal flooding is expected in the affected areas.

The met service says people living near or along rivers banks, along coastal areas, on flat plains or in areas prone to land slides should seek safe shelter.
