Chinese officials have handed over a new fish processing and cold storage facility at Lae's Malahang industrial centre to the people of Papua New Guinea.

The National newspaper says the facility, valued at more than three and a half million US dollars will provide jobs for local fishers.

Chinese Ambassador to PNG Wei Ruixing officially handed over the facility to Minister for National Planning and District Development Paul Tiensten.

The facility was built with funds from the Chinese and PNG governments and money from the Morobe provincial government in the form of land for the project site.
