Cook Islands prime minister says Ministry appointments are made by their Ministers

The Cook Islands Prime Minister, Jim Marurai, says he won't interfere with any appointments made by his Ministers to their respective ministries.

Mr Marurai's comments come after media reports that the Democratic Party national executive, was due to visit his office to ask him to sack the Foreign Minister Wilkie Rasmussen, and revoke the appointment of the new Foreign Secretary Michael Mitchell.

Mr Marurai says he stands by the appointment which was made by the Foreign Minister.

"It's the Minister's privilege he's the one that's going to work with Mike Mitchell so we endorse his recommendation. He's the one that's going to work with Mike Mitchell so we endorse his recommendation"

The Prime Minister says the national executive hasn't been to see him, but adds that if there's any sacking to be done it's up to him and noone else should interfere.
