PNG town Arawa faces more tension

5:09 pm on 24 January 2008

Reports from Papua New Guinea say there has been more lawlessness in the Bougainville town of Arawa.

The Post Courier newspaper says the Arawa district office has been burned down.

The building also contained the Arawa Public Library.

The situation had been tense following the Bougainville Police Service decision to withdraw from the town.

That move was taken after a police car was taken after an off-duty police officer crashed his car killing a passenger.
