The theft of telephone cable has resulted in service disruption to more than 10 thousand customers in Fiji's central and western divisions.

Telecom Fiji Limited's Public Relations Officer said the cost of thefts to the company were substantial and the matter was being investigated by police.

The Fiji Times says it is believed people are stealing the network cables to sell off the copper contained in the lines to scrap metal dealers.
