Mr Apple labour manager disappointed for Samoan families

The labour manager for Mr Apple Orchard, which is the north island city of Hawkes Bay, says it's the families who will suffer after three Samoan workers were sent home.

Hundreds of Pacific workers are currently employed at various orchards around the country under contract with the New Zealand government's Recognised Seasonal Employer scheme or RSE.

However, three Samoan workers were sent home by Mr Apple recently for drinking off orchard, a move the labour manager Alistair Jamison says is disappointing for their families back home.

"The fact that they have lost the chance to earn significant revenue while they're in New Zealand and send that back to both their families and into the country is a huge disadvantage to them so I'm extremely disappointed on their behalf and on their families behalf."

Mr Apple will employ over 600 Pacific workers by the end of this season.
