A jury member at the International Pacific Documentary Film Festival in French Polynesia says this year's movie selection was outstanding.

The Gift, directed by Jacques Navarro Rovira, won this year's Grand Prize, while The Last Australian Trackers, directed by Eric Ellena, won the Public's Choice Award.

A special prize went to the New Zealand film, Lifting of the Makutu, directed by Peta Carey.

Stephane Martin says the documentaries in this year's festival were fantastic.

"I'm very happy with the standard of this year. We had a very balanced choice and highly interesting movies. Of course, the festival has to play its role in the big league of film festivals. With this 5th edition of the festival, this is really happening."

20 documentaries from the Pacific region were shortlisted for the five-day event.
