Samoa deputy leader accuses rugby Sevens' referee of bias

8:22 pm on 4 February 2008

Samoa's Deputy Prime Minister Misa Telefoni says New Zealand should be ashamed of the referee in the Wellington Rugby Sevens final on Saturday.

New Zealand beat Samoa 22 -17, but according to Misa Telefoni the referee showed an obvious bias.

The referee was James Jones from Wales, but Misa Telefoni has told the Samoa Observer newspaper that he had a black shirt under his white referee's tunic, and hugged the New Zealand players after the game.
