No offer of aid from Government to Cylcone ravaged Fiji

The New Zealand government hasn't made a formal offer of aid yet to Fiji following cyclone Gene.

The cyclone left seven people dead and a trail of destruction last week.

The office of the foreign minister says the normal procedure is that the government would get a request for assistance from Fiji, but it hasn't had one yet.

Earlier, Fiji's director of National Disaster Management said Fiji hoped to get assistance from other countries, after declaring a state of natural disaster following Cyclone Gene.

China has announced it will give Fiji an undisclosed sum of aid money to go towards the building of infrastructure such as bridges, rural roads and better homes for squatters.
