The American Samoa Governor has been released from hospital in Hawaii and is reportedly doing well.

Togiola Tulafono was transferred to Hawaii after he underwent two surgeries in American Samoa in relation to his appendix.

It's unclear when the governor will return to American Samoa.

Our American Samoa correspondent, Fili Sagapolutele, reports.

"The governor has been released from the Straub medical centre in Honolulu and he's doing well. He was released from Straub Monday evening Hawaii time. We haven't received any official statement from the governor's office in American Samoa. It appears that there was a complication from his two surgeries and Lieutenant Governor Ipulafi played it safe by sending him to Honolulu, where there's more medical equipment, advanced medical advices to ensure that's there are no complications in future."
