A senior member of French Polynesia's To Tatou Aia coalition, Jean-Christophe Bouissou, says there are plans to legalise gambling in new resort to be built in the Tuamotu and Marquesas islands.

Mr Bouissou says talks have been held with investors in south-east Asia and Las Vegas to launch new towns as a novel way to boost tourism.

He says the concept also involves the use of sustainable energy sources and involves gaming as an activity.

"We are for letting this hotels having their gambling activity. Today we already have gambling in our country, and it should go in every town, like Papeete and Fa'a but this gambling activities is not controlled."
