Police called on to act over Samoa road blockade

4:32 pm on 18 February 2008

The police in Samoa have been asked to remove people from the district of Siumu who are blocking access roads over a land claim by the district.

A lawyer for the owners of the freehold land affected by the road block, Tole'afoa Solomona To'ailoa, says the villagers have trespassed and police prosecute them.

He has also asked the lawyer representing the Siumu land claimants, Leulua'ialii Olinda Woodrooffe, to clarify what they want.

Tole'afoa says the land claim has been amended with Siumu now seeking monetary compensation from the government, and not the original claim to return their lands.
