There are concerns about the proliferation of gambling establishments in the Northern Marianas.

Dr Christian Wei, who is the Eucon College president, says is worried about the ill-effects of gambling could have on the moral fibre of the community.

He told the Marianas Variety newspaper gambling has changed the image of Saipan.

His comments come as a Chinese firm is looking at a 50 million US dollar casino project on Tinian.

He says gambling supporters have always talked big while promising that their activities will raise revenue beneficial to the people.

But he says that has not materialised.

Dr Wei, who is also the pastor of the Christian Bible Church on Saipan, says they want to point out that gambling is not an easy way to get rich.
