TV banned from covering Wallis school dispute

Villagers on the French Pacific island of Wallis have prevented a television team from covering a dispute at a local school over the appointment of an advisor.

The Lavegahau high school has been blockaded and villagers has set fire to a nearby traditional hut that was built by the students.

The local head of the French ministry of education has told local television he understands the protest was launched because the advisor was from a different clan.

The official says he will not enter into any negotiations until the blockade has been lifted and the high school is allowed to function normally.
