Micronesian firefighters undergo advanced training

11:48 am on 22 February 2008

Aircraft firefighters from Palau, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands are in the Northern Marianas for a week long advanced aircraft rescue firefighting programme.

The Saipan Tribune says the training was initiated by the Commonwealth Ports Authority.

Firefighters from the CNMI Department of Public Safety also participated in the programme that started Monday and will finish today.

CPA Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting chief, James Diaz, says they are training participants on aircraft emergency incidents, such as engine fire rescue operations, fire fighting operations and mass disaster care.

He says the advanced course is to prepare firefighters in case there is an aircraft incident.
