Vanuatu's National Council of Women has elected a new president who for the first time is not from the capital, Port Vila.

Manina Pakete of Luganville has taken over from Audrey Luen.

The VNCW's Jenny Ligo has welcomed the change.

"The Board of Directors decided to change the leadership now. And now the Lugainville Council of Women, a woman from their network in Lugainville has been elected as the new president of the VNCW and so the leadership has changed from Port Vila to Lugainville - and it is the first time."
