The Speaker of Parliament in Solomon Islands says it is important that political leaders and civil servants in the country publicly place the fight against corruption, at the top of their agenda.
The Solomon Islands Broadcasting corporation says Sir Peter Kenilorea made the comments at a Leadership Code Commission workshop on Integrity and Corruption Prevention in Honiara.
Sir Peter says this workshop tries to give those holding high offices, the opportunity to examine their values in regards to integrity and corruption.
He says in essence it is an opportunity to reflect on leaders' convictions, achievements and most importantly the failures to promote integrity and fight against corruption in Solomon Islands.
He says it is important leaders understand that their offices and the positions that they hold are positions of responsibility and positions of service to the people of the country.
Sir Peter says the people's collective betterment must be leaders' personal endeavour.
