The United States Department of Defence says it is considering using Tinian and other islands in the Northern Marianas for training purposes.

Captain Bob Lee, the acting director of the Department's Joint Guam Programs Office, says they are looking at Tinian for training.

The Department already leases a portion of the northern part of the island.

He says the Marine Corps is doing a training concept study as well as looking throughout the CNMI.

The Department has also disclosed that as well as the enduring base in Guam, it plans to incorporate the CNMI as much as possible when and if this finally happens.
