Stadium for Mini Games in Cooks gets go-ahead

The man in charge of the Pacific Mini Games in the Cook Islands has welcomed the government's approval to build a multi-million US dollar stadium.

The administration has earlier signed an application for a 10 million US dollars Chinese loan to cover the cost of building the stadium for the games, due to be held in September next year.

There was some concern over the lack of consultation with sports people and the high maintenance cost of the stadium.

But David Lobb says the sporting community's concerns over the building have been addressed.

"After much haggling about the stadium issue, cabinet met and have now agreed that the stadium will go ahead and provide the requirements that have been asked for the stadium."

David Lobb believes day to day sports games will cover 80 percent of the maintenance costs of the stadium.
