9:53 am on 12 March 2008

Fiji's ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, will take the stand today in the trial to determine the legality or otherwise of the overthrow of his Government on December 5, 2006.

Fiji Live online says Gerard McCoy, the lawyer for the interim Government told the court that this was what the counsels had agreed to at a discussion during an adjournment yesterday.

He says it's expected that his Mr Qarase evidence and that of other witnesses will conclude today.

He said it was unlikely that prosecution will call any witnesses.
