The administration in the Northern Marianas has ordered government agencies to keep careful tabs on their expenditures for the rest of the fiscal year.

The governor, Benigno Fitial, sent a memo to all government agencies reminding them not to ask the government for additional funding if they spend all of their available budget.

He said the challenge is to reduce monthly expenditures from an average of 15 million US dollars per month to essentially 13 million per month for the remainder of the fiscal year.
