The State counsel, Guy Reynolds, will today make closing submissions in Fiji's High Court in Suva, in the trial to determine the legality or otherwise of the December 2006 coup.

Fiji Human Rights Commission chairman, Dr Shaista Shameem, is also expected to make her submission before High Court judges, Justice Anthony Gates, Justice Davendra Pathik and Justice John Byrne.

Fiji Live online says the ousted Laisenia Qarase government wants the court to declare whether the President had the powers to dismiss Mr Qarase as Prime Minister and appoint Commodore Frank Bainimarama in his place.

They also want the court to decide whether Commodore Bainimarama had the powers to remove the President from office and assume executive authority of the country.
