Strike threat in French Polynesia

2:59 pm on 18 March 2008

French Polynesia could be faced with a port strike before Easter.

A key union group says it has issued several strike notices that will come into effect in three days and affect transport companies in the area of the port of Papeete.

A statement says the action will be taken because earlier undertakings have not been honoured.

The grouping says other private sector companies as well as part of the public service could be targetted.
