Yazaki Samoa reduces working hours for 2000 workers

10:15 am on 21 March 2008

Almost half of Yazaki EDS Samoa Ltd's workforce of 2000 will work four day work weeks for the next two weeks.

The General Manager of research and development, Funefea'i Oliva Va'ai, says the company has been forced to reduce working hours because one of its customers has reduced its orders.

Funefeai said orders have dropped dramatically and 200 people will have nothing to do if the work hours are not reduced.

Staff association president, Tapuala Levasa Oloapu, told the Samoa Observer said nearly all decisions by management were made following consultations with their association.
