Reports from French Polynesia say a proposal may be worked out today to end the industrial dispute which has crippled fuel supplies.
A tanker has been unable to offload its cargo as the port has been closed by a strike while fuel supply companies are faced with industrial action which has hit various sectors of the economy.
French Polynesian radio says some of the ship's crew has come ashore as the vessel is off Tahiti waiting to dock.
Reports say the tanker is set to move on within two days if the port remains closed.
While a proposal to settle the conflict may be tabled today, the fuel supply companies hit by the strike say talks will resume the day after tomorrow.
