Fiji's Citizens' Constitutional Forum has called on the international community to take part in shaping a new multi-ethnic democratic system for the country.

In a letter to today's meeting of Pacific Islands Forum foreign ministers in Auckland, the head of the CCF, the Reverend Akuila Yabaki said the international community should offer practical assistance in election preparation, and encourage the development of a new proportional electoral system.

The CCF has also called on the international community to encourage the military to return to the barracks and help Fiji transform the military into a multi-racial force.

The Reverend Yabaki says Fiji also needs help in dealing with its broader social problems which could turn violent.
