The Solomon Islands Parliament has heard that the Auditor General has found serious weaknesses to the payroll system in government.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee, Francis Zama highlighted the report and its recommendations.
He says the auditor general had identified a number of problems in the control mechanisms of the central pay roll system, which resulted in serious shortcomings over the last five years.
"The main issues Mr Speaker said investigated by the Auditor General include, total absence of key controls from the pay roll, lack of adequate policies and procedures, over the payroll functions, serious lack of segregation of duties resulting in one officer performing both entry and cheque functions, significant overtime payments to ineligible person, delays in termination's resulting in significant over payments."
Francis Zama says the auditor's report contains 48 recommendations.
