The Samoa government has given more than 30 families living in the village of Sogi on part of Apia urban area 18 months to relocate.
The government plan, which would see relocation to Nu'u a village, further inland near Tafa'igata prison, was relayed to representatives of the village by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Faumuina Tiatia Liuga.
Sogi's church minister, the Reverend Kerisiano Soti, says the village has considered accepting the government decision but wants a compromise.
One is for the government to lower the 20 thousand US dollars price for a quarter acre piece of land because the villagers are low income earners.
They want the government to also consider providing compensation for relocation.
The government wants to relocate the village because it on mangrove areas, which has blocked the water flow towards the sea, causing flooding on the coastline of Apia as well as concerns of rising sea level.
