Nauru's president says Nauruans will not tolerate a return to corrupt practices

Nauru's president says Nauruans will not tolerate a return to the corrupt practices and poor decision making consistent with previous administrations, which brought the Nauruan economy to near collapse.

Marcus Stephen says his government is getting on with the job they were elected to do in order to fulfill the rightful expectations of the people who elevated them to power in the first place.

Mr Stephen says it not only maintains the majority of numbers on the floor of the Parliament, but it also has the overwhelming support of the people of Nauru.

He says if anything, popular support for his government is growing by the day as the opposition members continue to embarrass themselves.

He says the opposition is not able to legally remove the government through a Parliamentary sitting so it is trying to bring on an unwarranted general election in the hope they can be elected to government.
