A University of Hawaii doctoral candidate Michael Valdez has sent out almost 200 surveys in the first ever study of business successes and failures in American Samoa.

Surveys were mailed out several weeks ago to members of the local business community.

Samoa News reports today that takes into account the unique environment in which local entrepreneurs operate, and will help government design programs to keep businesses up and running for long-term economic development.

Valdez, a research assistant and PhD candidate at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is also examining the role of "fa'aSamoa" or Samoan way on business success.
