The Solomon Islands, Tourism Minister, has highlighted corruption in the public service as a hindrance to tourism development projects in the past.

Speaking in parliament, Seth Gukuna, says given the right conditions tourism can be a major earner for the country.

He says as long as we are consistent in our budgetting over the next two years we will build tourism in the country.

"After all and maybe it is only fitting that the success we will achieve in tourism will help us lessen our dependancy on aid money."

Mr Gukuna, who is also the MP for Rennell Bellona Province, thanked the government for money it has allocated to build a airstrip close to the World Heritage Site of Lake Tegano in East Rennell.
