The Cook Islands Under 20 rugby union side begin their journey to Chile today.

The side who will take part in the inaugural IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy are travelling to New Zealand first to prepare for the tournament starting later this month.

Coach Nooroa Maui says it's been a challenge with 75 percent of the players living in New Zealand and Australia.

But he says he's used the time to prepare the local players

"I've been doing a lot of training preparation for the guys in Raro at the same time liaising with Henry Amosa in regard to the players especially in Auckland and trying to liaise with some of the helpers down in Wellington the likes of Paul Ralton, who is giving us a hand and just trying to keep up the fitness level for those guys down in Wellington."

Nooroa Maui says at this stage he has no expectations but is confident the side will do well considering they have players who took part in last years world youth tournament in Ireland.
