More frustration over ongoing delays in getting relief funds to Solomons tsunami victims

The Western Province government in Solomon Islands has expressed frustration at the continued delay in funds from central government for post-tsunami rehabilitation.

The province has marked the first anniversary of the disaster which left more than 50 people dead.

The Western Premier, Alex Lokopio, says many victims still need proper shelter, which is holding up the rehabilitation process.

While the government promised two million US dollars towards a shelter programme two months ago, Mr Lokopio says it's yet to materialise.

"When I approached the national government, they say that the parliamentarian has got to organise a committee to really sort these things out. But so far not any of what we call constituency rehabilitation committees have been formed, so that's why things are very slow at this time."
