Support to extend legislative sessions in American Samoa's Fono

5:27 am on 14 April 2008

American Samoa's Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin is supportive of the Fono being in session longer than the current two legislative sessions per year.

The congressman said adding more working days for the Fono will allow lawmakers enough time to properly review legislation.

It will also mean that the Fono does not have to wait till a special session called by the governor or the next legislative session to complete action on pressing bills.

The congressman said at present the Fono is only in session 3 months out of the year, excluding special sessions.
