March against Samoa government traffic bill gets underway

10:54 am on 15 April 2008

The Samoa government launched a campaign on television last night protesting against those opposed to its controversial road transport bill.

It comes as the second protest march in Samoa opposed to the bill starts today.

The SBC television in a programme replayed audio of Prime Minister Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi's, ministerial speech made in Parliament last month where the controversial Road Transport bill went through the second reading.

The Transport minister, Tuisugaletaua Sofara Aveau, spoke at the same parliamentary session in response to criticisms relating to the legislation.

A former opposition politician says the government is using the public funded broadcaster to get support.

Meanwhile the aim of the second protest today according to an organizer and chairman for the opposition, Tole'afoa Solomona To'ailoa, is to deliver letters to all MPs encouraging them not to support the legislation.

It is also for the Prime Minister to reconsider his new policy.
