Fiji DVD retailers suffer from piracy

11:51 am on 15 April 2008

A Fiji DVD retailer says unless the copyright law is amended, businesses will be forced to close.

Uday Singh, who is the director of Fiji's Video Ezy franchise, says because of piracy he has been forced to shut some retail stores.

Mr Singh also says there is a loophole in regard to the enforcement of the law.

Mr Singh says sales have dropped by up to 90 per cent in the past year.

"It's an ongoing and continuing problem in Fiji - piracy is on the streets, in the shopping malls, on suburban streets and major operators with piracy and copying at production levels, operating at 24 hours a day."
