Police in Fiji says the case of the 17 activists arrested for last week's peaceful vigil outside the Chinese Embassy in Fiji will be treated like a traffic offence.
A police spokesperson says in the absence of a formal complaint, the 15 women and two men will be summoned to court.
Charges will be read out to them as opposed to them getting formally charged at a police station.
The process will then continue like any other normal case which is expected to take six months.
