NGO defends Council for Building a Better Fiji consultant payments

The Ecumenical Centre for Research, Education and Advocacy in Fiji says it's disturbed by all the criticism over the National Council for Building a Better Fiji wage issue.

The interim government's Council has come under attack for the high salaries it is paying foreign consultants.

It's been revealed that some earn up to eight thousand US dollars a month.

But the NGO's Father Kevin Barr says if you hire overseas consultants you need to pay overseas wages.

"It's not only for Council for Building a Better Fiji that has consultants we get consultants from ADB, and the World Bank and the IMF and all these people come here and nobody questions their pay, you know, it's just the people who are very opposed to the People's Charter."
