The premier of Niue, Young Vivian, says a hotel and golf course development will probably not be finished in time for the Pacific Island Forum summit in August.

Mr Vivian says landowners have finally agreed to the lease terms and this will be formalised at the land court which sits next week.

He says Niue has received almost 800,000 US dollars from China to upgrade the airport in preperation of the summit.

"Lights, equipment that is essential for the aeroplane to land and also security fence that will help out and also some of the renovation in the actual building like in the lounges and where the passengers are going to go through."

Niue premier, Young Vivian, says some work on the airport is already underway.
