American Samoa's South Pacific Express Incorporated grounds flights

11:08 am on 1 May 2008

American Samoa's South Pacific Express Incorporated is grounding flights for the next two weeks while it obtains approval to operate under New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority regulations.

SPEX operated its last flight today under the Federal Aviation Administration.

Avamua Dave Haleck is hopeful that SPEX will obtain its air worthiness certificate in two weeks.

Because the company is now registered in Samoa, it will be treated as a foreign carrier and would need to obtain approval from the US Department of Transportation to fly to Pago Pago.
