Three students in Samoa, from the Catholic Church's Don Bosco technical school, have been jointly charged with attempted murder.
The charges relate to a violent school brawl, during which a student was severely injured by a petrol bomb.
The female student, Francesca Tuala, has been flown to Middlemore hospital in Auckland for further treatment, including plastic surgery, with the government paying all medical costs.
Police have already released on bail twenty Don Bosco students and a teacher arrested after the riots.
They are to appear in court again later this month.
Over the weekend, the Catholic Church conducted a special mass for reconciliation attended by the Head of State and the Prime Minister as well as students from the schools involved in the brawl.
