U.S. President George Bush has signed into law the federal Consolidated Natural Resources Act extending U.S. immigration laws to the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas and authorising a CNMI non-voting delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Insular Affairs says the enactment of this bill ushers in a new era for the people of the CNMI - one that promises closer
cooperation and greater consultation between the territory, the Federal government, and the U.S. Congress.
The Chairman says he looks forward to welcoming a CNMI Delegate to the U.S. House at the start of 111th Congress next year.
