CNMI records strong tourism growth

The Marianas Visitors Authority says April arrivals soared more than 20 percent to 31,800 tourists, compared to 26,286 for the same period last year.

For the first time this fiscal year, arrivals from Japan were higher than the previous period.

The Managing Director of the Marianas Visitors Authority, Perry Tenorio, says the territory's airline partner, Northwest Airlines, is supportive of increasing visitor arrivals to the CNMI.

"It hasn't been easy, but the reflection in the number in April is the resumption of air service from Osaka to the CNMI. Northwest as well, and also we had three charter flights...so all these factors contributed to the increase in arrivals from that source market."

Perry Tenorio says the growth should continue - though not at the same levels.
