9:13 pm on 20 May 2008

The Melanesian Spearhead Group annual police chiefs' meeting in Port Vila in Vanuatu at the weekend agreed to push for Fiji to be re-admitted to the Pacific Islands chiefs of police conference.

The Fiji Times reports that the decision by delegates at the meeting was confirmed by the chairman of MSG police chiefs and Vanuatu Police Commissioner Liu Patu.

Fiji's Police Commissioner Esala Teleni was invited to the meeting but he sent his deputy instead.

Meanwhile, Mr Patu said delegates showed concern at the appointment of an indigenous officer for the Solomon Islands top post when Jahir Khan's contract expires this month.
