American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono has issued a General Memorandum to freeze all hiring, promotions and increments until further notice.

Togiola says the freeze will allow the American Samoa Government to plan personnel budgets for the rest of Fiscal Year 2008 and Fiscal Year 2009 ahead of the upcoming 50 cent minimum wage hike set for May 25th.

Togiola says he has taken the action in order to determine the effect of the next increase in minimum wage on government operations.

The governor has also advised departments to review their personnel rosters for implementation of the wage increase
