Two more Fiji sugar mills delay season

Crushing at another two Fiji sugar mills could be deferred because of a delay in mill upgrading works and bad weather.

A decision on the start date of the Rarawai and Penang mills is expected to be made during the sugar stakeholders meeting today.

The Labasa Mill's crushing season was deferred by two weeks after the Fiji Sugar Corporation and Sugar Cane Growers Council agreed it would be in the industry's best interest to have the commencement date postponed to June 24th.

FSC acting chief executive Deo Saran told the Fiji Times Online, a review was also conducted at the Rarawai Mill to determine the progress of works before they would consider the possibility of deferring its season.
