A New Zealand lawyer Felicity Heffernan has been chosen as Fiji's Supervisor of Elections.

This has been confirmed by the chairman of the Constitutional Offices Commission, Rishi Ram.

She is expected to take up her appointment on July the 1st.

Last month, another New Zealand lawyer appointed to the position resigned, saying he no longer wanted the job.

That followed revelations that Dr Maurice Coughlan had been disbarred in New Zealand 16 years ago - information the Fiji Public Service Commission has said it was not made aware of.

The supervisor of the 2006 election, Semesa Karavaki, who protested against the military coup, was dismissed by the interim regime.
